US CONSUMER MEDIA TOUR OF SCOTLAND ANNOUNCED BY DISTILLED SPIRITS COUNCIL OF U.S. AND SCOTCH WHISKY ASSOCIATION

February 24, 2004 07:00 PM
Washington, D.C./London, U.K.—The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) and the Edinburgh-based Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) today announced the launch of a jointly sponsored media tour of Scotland, slated for May 20-28th, focusing on its most famous export: Scotch Whisky. The visit, part of a bi-annual collaboration between the two organizations, is designed to expose American consumer media to the rich 500 year old heritage and tasty nuances of Scotch Whisky, a spirits category at the forefront of the worldwide super premium spirits trend. The trip will expose lifestyle and business writers to differing styles of well-known major blended Scotch brands such as Dewars, Johnnie Walker, and Chivas Regal, as well as connoisseur-favored single malts Dalmore, Tormore, Glenmorangie, The Glenlivet, Glendronach, Talisker, Aberlour and many others. Exploring the Speyside, Highland and Island regions participants will learn about the Scotch-making process, from barley and peat to blending and aging, and will discover the unique characteristics each imparts to the heady spirits. The 2004 trip follows a very successful partnership effort between the two organizations in 2002, which resulted in articles in newspapers such as the New York Post, New York Daily News, and the San Francisco Chronicle, as well as Time magazine and many others, bringing information about the delights of Scotch Whisky to the dens and living rooms of adult American consumers.
