George Washington's Distillery at Mount Vernon, Virginia was the largest, most successful whiskey distillery in early America. The reconstructed distillery is the only site in North America that can demonstrate 18th-century distilling from seed to barrel. The distillery and museum serve as the gateway to the American Whiskey Trail and are open daily from April through October, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Special exhibitions at the distillery and the new George Washington Education Center at Mount Vernon teach visitors about Washington’s talents as an entrepreneur and distiller, as well as his belief in moderation.
