American Whiskey Trail
In Cooperation with Historic Mount Vernon
Welcome to the American Whiskey Trail. Here you can begin an educational journey into the cultural heritage and history of spirits in America. From the colonial era, where Whiskey had an important economic and social function in the fabric of the community, to the Whiskey Rebellion, through Prohibition and into modern times spirits have played a sometimes controversial but always fascinating role in our nation’s history. The Gateway to the American Whiskey Trail is the reconstructed George Washington’s Distillery at Historic Mount Vernon (VA), which is open to the public from April through October, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. George Washington's Distillery is the only site in North America that can demonstrate 18th-century distilling from seed to barrel.
Here at AmericanWhiskeyTrail.com you will find links to many of America’s most famous operating Distilleries as well as important historic sites connected to the history of distilling and spirits in our country. Each site has a unique story to tell and all are open to the public for visits throughout the year (please check for the most updated hours of operation).
