Each team came to the conference having already identified a specific alcohol abuse problem on their campus that they wanted to impact. At the conference, nationally-recognized speakers from universities, government and alcohol-related organizations presented information on a range of programs and best practices being used successfully on campuses to reduce alcohol abuse among college students. The conference also included team planning sessions in which the teams worked independently to develop specific, action-oriented plans to take back and implement in their communities. On the last day of the conference several teams presented the plans they had devised for their own community.

At the end of the conference, teams were encouraged to apply for a "matching grant" from the beverage alcohol industry in an amount up to $20,000.00. 17 universities applied and were awarded grants. Part of each the grant came from Distilled Spirits Council of the United States and part came from a local retailer or wholesaler in the University’s community.
