Alcohol abuse trends among all age groups declined in 2016 compared to the prior year, according to the newly-released National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH).

 

American Spirits Export Value Rises by 10.6 Percent in First Half of 2017

The value of U.S. distilled spirits exports rose a robust 10.6 percent—up more than $67 million—to a total of $698.5 million in the first half of 2017 as compared with the same period in 2016, the Distilled Spirits Council reported today.

New Study Confirms Possible Benefits of Moderate Alcohol Consumption

Moderate alcohol consumption is associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality from all-causes, according to a new, large study of over 333,000 U.S. adults published yesterday in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. The study findings did not differentiate between beer, wine and spirits.

Leading Government Survey Does Not Support Claims That Alcohol Use Disorder is on the Rise in the United States

The Distilled Spirits Council today issued the following statement in response to claims published in JAMA Psychiatry that suggests alcohol use disorder is on the rise in the United States. “While any amount of alcohol abuse is too much, the claims published in JAMA Psychiatry do not comport with findings of the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the federal government’s leading survey that tracks substance use disorders,” said Distilled Spirits Council's Dr. Sam Zakhari.
