White House Official Meets with Washington State Distillers to Highlight Benefits of International Trade

Small distillers from across Washington state gathered today at Westland Distillery in Seattle to meet with White House Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Cabinet Secretary Gaurab Bansal to discuss the positive impact of international trade and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement on the U.S. distilled spirits sector.


Distilled Spirits Council of the United States Hosts ‘Great American Whiskey Experience’ in South Africa April 12 and 14

The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (the Council), will host the 'Great American Whiskey Experience', one-of-a-kind tasting seminars in Cape Town (April 12) and Johannesburg (April 14) for South African importers, distributors and retailers. The Council will also co-host an American Whiskey Reception at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence on April 13.

West Virginians Can Now Enjoy Cocktails During Sunday Brunch

West Virginians can now enjoy a Bloody Mary during their Sunday brunch following legislation signed yesterday by Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today that changed the on-premise serving hours for alcohol from 1 p.m. to 10 a.m., if approved by local option.


Forget Green Beer; Irish Whiskey is Booming

In 2015, super premium Irish Whiskey grew 54.4 percent, while high end premium Irish Whiskey rose 13.7 percent. This trend continues the impressive growth of the Irish Whiskey category with high end and super premium Irish Whiskeys growing a staggering 589 percent and 3,054 percent, respectively, since 2002.

Jim Clerkin Elected Chair of the Distilled Spirits Council

The Distilled Spirits Council at its annual members meeting on February 25, 2016, elected Moët Hennessy North America CEO Jim Clerkin Chair of the national trade association, which represents the makers and marketers of distilled spirits sold in the United States. Clerkin succeeds Campari America Chairman Gerard (Gerry) Ruvo, who has chaired the Council since 2013.

Distilled Spirits Council Testifies in Support of Governor’s Plan to End Connecticut’s Minimum Bottle Price Requirement

Governor Malloy’s proposal to end Connecticut’s minimum bottle price requirement and allow for more competitive alcohol pricing would generate $150 million in new revenue for the state – and between $5.2 to $8.1 million annually in new excise and sales taxes, according to economic analysis presented during testimony today by Distilled Spirits Vice President Jay Hibbard before the Connecticut Legislature.​

Distilled Spirits Deliver Steady Sales Growth of 4.1 Percent in 2015

Distilled spirits delivered another year of steady growth in 2015 with supplier sales up 4.1 percent and volumes up 2.3 percent, the Distilled Spirits Council announced today at its annual briefing for media and Wall Street analysts. Distilled spirits suppliers and marketers also marked the sixth straight year of increasing their market share relative to beer in 2015.

New U.S. Dietary Guidelines Reaffirm Moderate Drinking As Part of a Healthy Adult Diet

The 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, issued today, emphasize that American adults who choose to drink should do so in moderation; reaffirm the definition of a standard drink for beer, wine and distilled spirits; and adopt the new terminology “drink-equivalents.”
