Distilled Spirits Council Commends Oregon's Spirits Markup Measure

Salem, OR – The Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) unanimously passed a rule Friday requiring 45 days prior notice and a public hearing before implementing any new markups, fees or surcharges on distilled spirits, according to the Distilled Spirits Council which applauded the measure and called it a win for good government.

Michigan State Legislature Passes Liquor Sampling Bill

LANSING, MI – The Michigan State Legislature today passed a bill giving consumers the opportunity to sample liquor at distilled spirits outlets, according to the Distilled Spirits Council which applauded the legislation and called Michigan’s tastings the latest in a growing trend of states updating liquor laws across the country.

Virginia Legislature Includes Hidden Alcohol Taxes in State Budget

RICHMOND, VA – The Virginia State Legislature’s budget includes a two percent increase in the mark-up on distilled spirits – the 12th price hike on Virginia spirits drinkers since 1979 and a move the Distilled Spirits Council is calling a “stealth tax” that will have consumers paying even more per bottle.
