Distillers to Auction Off Rare Spirits at Mount Vernon for Hurricane Relief

September 25, 2005 08:00 PM
MOUNT VERNON, VA – Master Distillers from America’s best known brands will be offering a one-of-a-kind opportunity to taste and purchase bottles of rare George Washington Distillery Vatted American Whiskey at historic Mount Vernon September 28 to benefit victims of the hurricane. The special auction, hosted by the Distilled Spirits Council and the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America, will feature a limited edition of 250 commemorative bottles of George Washington Distillery Vatted American Whiskey, a blend of America’s best known Bourbons and whiskies, vatted, aged and hand-bottled on the grounds of Mount Vernon. This limited edition whiskey is made from a unique blend of brands: Jack Daniel’s, Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark, Wild Turkey, George Dickel, Virginia Gentleman, Platte Valley, Rebel Yell, Very Old Barton and Woodford Reserve. Each bottle will sell for $250. Auction proceeds will go to Hurricane Katrina relief, which will be matched 4-to-1 by Distilled Spirits Council member companies, and to support Mount Vernon’s education initiative. Distilled spirits companies have already donated over $2 million for hurricane relief. The hand-blown bottle, an authentic replica of a 1788 case bottle, was designed by Owens-Illinois and created by Jamestown Glasshouse. Each bottle will be hand-labeled and signed by the Master Distillers. “This is a unique opportunity for collectors to purchase a bottle of a one-of-a-kind American spirit while helping to lift America’s spirit,” said Peter Cressy, President of the Distilled Spirits Council.
