Distilled Spirits Council Provides Responsible Drinking PSA to TV Stations

December 6, 2013 11:50 AM

Spot Also Available Through National Association of Broadcasters Website

WASHINGTON, DC – In advance of the holiday season, the Distilled Spirits Council is providing a moderation and responsible drinking public service announcement to local television stations around the country.

In addition to sending the public service announcement to the stations, a broadcast quality version can also be accessed by local television stations through the National Association of Broadcasters’ website:

“With the holidays just around the corner, we want to remind adults who may raise a glass of cheer this season to do so responsibly and in moderation,” said Distilled Spirits Council President Peter Cressy.

According to the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans, moderate alcohol consumption is up to one drink per day for women and up to 2 drinks per day for men. The Guidelines define a standard drink as 12 fluid ounces of regular beer (5% alcohol by volume), 5 fluid ounces of wine (12% alcohol by volume) and 1.5 fluid ounces of 80 proof (40% alcohol by volume) distilled spirits.

“While moderation should be practiced year-round, it’s especially important during the holidays which is the peak entertaining time of the year,” said Cressy.

The “Drink in Moderation” PSA directs consumers to, where consumers will find information from the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans on moderate drinking as well as tips for responsible entertaining.
