Distilled Spirits Council Hosts “Spirits of Tampa” and “Spirits of Charlotte”

August 21, 2012 01:00 PM

WASHINGTON – The Distilled Spirits Council will be toasting the “Spirits of Tampa” and the “Spirits of Charlotte” as the lead sponsor of two signature events at the upcoming Republican and Democratic National Conventions.

“It doesn’t matter if you are a Republican or a Democrat, everyone enjoys a spirited and responsible social event,” said Distilled Spirits Council President Peter Cressy.  “We look forward to showcasing our member companies’ fine distilled spirits products, as well as the important role spirits play in the hospitality industry and in our nation’s economy.”

“Spirits of Tampa”

The “Spirits of Tampa” event is slated for Monday, August 27, 8:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at the Florida Aquarium in downtown Tampa.  Guests will sip exclusive spirits from around the globe while enjoying spectacular views at one of the country’s top-ranked Aquariums.  The event will feature a 500,000 gallon, floor-to-ceiling Coral Reef tank; the famous Weeki Wachee Mermaids; live music; and an outdoor party deck and cigar lounge overlooking the channel and Harbor Island.

“Spirits of Tampa” co-sponsors include: National Retail Federation, Business Roundtable, National Association of Chain Drug Stores, National Association of Homebuilders, National Association of Realtors, The Hill newspaper and General Cigar Company.

“Spirits of Charlotte”

The “Spirits of Charlotte” will be held Monday, September 3, from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at the North Carolina Music Factory, the hottest music venue in the Southeast.  The exclusive late night event, located in the old warehouse district in uptown Charlotte, will feature Hollywood “super band,” Camp Freddy.

Camp Freddy is a “jam session” headed by Billy Morrison (Billy Idol/The Cult), Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction), Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses), Donovan Leitch (son of legendary folk singer Donovan), and Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction/Alanis Morissette).  Over 100 rock icons have performed with Camp Freddy, including Sammy Hagar, Slash, Billy Idol, Ozzy Osbourne, Steven Tyler and Tommy Lee.  Concert guests have no idea who is going to appear on stage as the band's "special guests" until the night of the show.

As part of the event, a donation will be made to Wounded Warriors Family Support.  “Spirits of Charlotte” co-sponsors include: National Association of Homebuilders, National Restaurant Association, The Hill newspaper and General Cigar Company.

The Council has sponsored similar events at the 2004 and 2008 national political conventions where hundreds of VIPs attended the invitation-only parties, including members of Congress, governors, international diplomats, senior congressional staff and campaign aides, as well as prominent members of the national media.
